If you appreciate WWII history then in Berlin you will find memorials dedicated to the murdered Jews, Gypsies and homosexuals of Europe. If you are interested in more recent Berlin/German history you can view the ‘East Side Gallery’, visit the Berlin Wall Museum or see the Black Box at Checkpoint Charlie (Berlin’s most famous border crossing point).

If you’re doing a lot of sightseeing in Berlin you will want to master the public transport. The S and U Bahns are similar to the London Underground (but maybe a little less manic!), you can jump on and off all day for €6.70 and your legs will appreciate it as Berlin is huge! Just buy a ticket at one of the ticket machines at each stop, they have various language options including English, and validate your ticket before you get on a S or U Bahn by getting it stamped in a ticket validation machine. The S bahn also connects to Schonefeld airport if you are travelling by plane. For more info click here: http://www.s-bahn-berlin.de/en
For accommodation in Berlin I favour Plus Berlin. It acts as both hostel and hotel depending on your needs and I paid €14 per person per night (for a private twin, also please note if you are staying in Berlin for business you must now state this and pay a bed tax).
As well as being clean and having friendly staff the hostel/hotel has its own bar and restaurant plus a free to use swimming pool and sauna! I have rated Plus Berlin as one of my top 2 hostels of all time in my blog ‘2 Amazing Hostels’: http://journalwarawiri.blogspot.com/2015/03/best-backpacker-hostels-by-me.html and for more info you can visit the hostel website at http://www.plushostels.com/plusberlin
