The Gaza strip, located at the southeastern Mediterranean coast in southwest Asia, is a rectangular strip of land occupying 363 sq. km. northeast of the Sinai Peninsula.

The Gaza strip is located between 3125’N 3420’E Coordinates in the Middle East. It is about 41 kilometers long and between 6 to 12 kilometers wide.

This small strip of land is densely populated with 1.5 million Palestinians. On a comparative scale, the land area is slightly more than twice the area of Washington, D. C.

The Gaza strip has a coastline of about 40 kilometers and shares land boundaries of a total of 62 kilometers of which it shares 11 kilometers of land boundary with Egypt and the remaining 51 kilometers of land boundary with Israel.

The strip experiences temperate climate with mild winters and dry and warm to hot summers. The terrain is flat to rolling with coastal plains covered with sand and dunes. The highest point is Abu ‘Awdah, at 105 meters above sea level whereas the lowest point is the Mediterranean Sea at sea level.

The Gaza strip has been divided into five territories, starting from the south, is the territory of Rafah. 7 kilometers northeast of the territory of Rafah is the territory of Khan Yunis.

Between Khan Yunis and the Gaza City lies the territory of Deir al-Balah and north of the Gaza City is the North Gaza territory with Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun regions in it. The strip boasts of the presence of the remains of the oldest man-made bonfire.
