Many people don’t seem to want to visit Washington D.C when they are planning their trips abroad. A lot of people think that D.C is usually the center for all sorts of political affairs and that there isn’t much to do in this city.

You would want to go somewhere else to make your trip more memorable. While it is true that D.C is the center of the US politics, I mean, after all, it is the capital of the country, there are numerous places that are worth visiting.

Washington D.C have a lot of attractions which draw in hundreds of tourists from all over the world every year. So if you are planning to visit Washington D.C on your next trip then make sure you visit these famous spots in Washington.

National Air and Space Museum

Arguably the most famous museum in the whole country, the National Air and Space Museum is the ultimate place for the people who love to fly. It has got everything related to flight and is quite a place to visit.

Starting from the work of the Wright Brothers to the countless number of outer space exploitation done by NASA, you will find one thing or another stored here. There are exhibitions regarding the history, science and technological advancement of aviation and space flights.

On separate exhibitions, you can learn more about the role of air power during the two world war. It is actually a fascinating place to be in.  There is so much to learn and see here that we would suggest to go there with a full day and enjoy every bit of it thoroughly.

United States Capitol and Capitol Hill

You want to visit the United States of America but not visit the one place which is considered as the symbol of the USA itself? The Capitol is the place where the House of Representatives and the Senate have their seats.

This whole place is built with inspiration from St. Peter’s in Rome.  There is a terrace on one side of the Capitol where you can get a stunning view of the city and of the mall. The interior of the Capitol is beautifully decorated with several paintings, frescoes and other reliefs.

Free tours are given to the public and these tours can be booked online. There is also the Congress Library which is world’s largest library. They have an extensive collection of books there including some extremely rare collector’s item. However, visiting there is very much restricted but you can tour parts of it.

The White House

Do I really have to explain why one should visit this place when in D.C? This is where the leader of the Free World lives and works from. I am pretty sure that you have heard and seen the White House in multiple news footages and telecasts and even movies but when you see the building up close, you will be awed!

This building is actually a very good architecture and tours are given to a countless number of tourists every day. The tours include visiting the East, Blue, Green and Red Rooms. However, if you can manage to get your reservations done right through the Congressional office or the embassy then you can take a tour of the State Dining Room and the Ballroom.

There is a White House Visit Center where you can go for free and witness a number of exhibitions including the details of the former presidents and their families.

International Spy Museum

If you want to go somewhere completely fun in D.C then this is the perfect place. And if you happen to be a big fan of 007 or of spies in general then this will surely be your haven. The International Spy Museum contains everything and anything related to the world of espionage.

The place covers all sorts of techniques that the spies use. All sort of technology that has been once used or developed will be on display as well. You can even come across some of the things that have been used in the field by certain spies such as the poison dart umbrella used by the KGB.

Its not only the things of the modern era that are on display, you can even go back in time and see some of the older stuff dating back during the Revolution and Civil War. Gadgets such as cleverly disguised cameras and hidden weapons are also on display.

My personal favorite was the Enigma cipher machine that was used during the World War II by the Alliance. Yes, it is the same machine on which the movie Imitation Game was based on. Already gotten excited? Well, there is more, including all the props used in the James Bond movies.

You may even recognize some of the gadgets over there. The Ashton Martin DB5 is also on display there along with all the machine guns and oil jets and other things modified to that beautiful car. It is an absolute delight to visit this place and makes your trip to D.C a whole lot better.
